The events have raised concerns about gun safety laws in Utah, which do not require secure storage for unattended firearms.

Two BYU Cornerbacks Change Jersey Numbers After Ben Bywater's Retirement
Following the retirement of BYU linebacker Ben Bywater, two BYU cornerbacks changed their jersey numbers ahead of the season opener. Mory Bamba initially requested to wear Bywater’s former number 2, but agreed to let Marque Collins take the number, switching to number 4 instead. Collins wore number 4 during Fall camp but is now wearing number 2, while Bamba moved from number 19 to 4. Collins earned the starting cornerback spot and performed well in BYU’s game against Southern Illinois. Bamba did not play due to injury and was seen in a walking boot, with his status for Friday’s game still unclear.
