A vacation house in Provo, Utah, was destroyed by a large fire early Tuesday morning. The fire, reported around 5 a.m., engulfed the two-story home and spread to nearby trees. Fire crews, led by North Fire District Chief Dave Marcella, focused on preventing the fire from spreading into the wildland area, successfully containing it. The house, believed to be unoccupied at the time, had not yet been fully searched. Firefighters plan to monitor the area throughout the day to prevent any rekindling or further spread.

Arkansas Officer Fired for Beating Handcuffed Inmate
An Arkansas police officer, Joseph Harris, was fired after being caught on video beating a handcuffed inmate, Billy Lee Coram, in the back of his patrol car. The incident, which occurred while Coram was being transferred from a hospital to jail, involved Harris punching, elbowing, and slamming the car door on Coram's head. Jonesboro Police Chief Rick Elliott, who was appalled by Harris' actions, immediately terminated him and plans to refer the case to prosecutors. Harris had a history of excessive force, including a prior suspension and involvement in a wrongful death lawsuit.

Ukraine's Kursk Incursion Highlights Strategic Shift
Ukraine's recent incursion into Russia's Kursk region demonstrates a shift in its military strategy, emphasizing secrecy and surprise. Unlike the highly publicized and ultimately unsuccessful 2023 counteroffensive, Ukraine's latest operation was carried out with minimal prior notice to even its own troops and was kept largely under wraps until significant gains were achieved. Ukrainian forces have reportedly taken nearly 400 square miles of Russian territory in just a few days, catching Russian defenses off guard. This approach contrasts sharply with Ukraine's previous strategy, which included publicizing intentions and plans that allowed Russia to anticipate and prepare for the assault.
