Another teen who fell in was rescued by bystanders using fishing rods and treated for mild hypothermia. Emergency crews recovered Creel nearly two and a half hours later, but he did not survive despite life-saving efforts. His family described him as a loving brother who enjoyed video games, working on computers, and the outdoors. His mother and stepfather expressed deep grief, with his mother saying, “I’m going to miss him so much.”

Tax season has begun, with the IRS expecting 140 million returns by April 15. Refunds for electronic filers typically take 21 days or less, while paper returns take longer. Taxpayers can check their refund status using the “Where’s My Refund?” tool. Refunds depend on overpaid taxes or refundable credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC). The IRS has expanded its free Direct File program to 25 states, allowing taxpayers with simple W-2s to file without using commercial software.

NASA’s OSIRIS-REx Mission Returns Historic Sample from Asteroid Bennu

NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission successfully returned a sample from asteroid Bennu, revealing amino acids and genetic material related to DNA and RNA, suggesting that the building blocks of life were widespread in the early solar system. The sample also contained salts and minerals, including trona, found in extraterrestrial material for the first time. While not direct evidence of life, the discoveries provide insights into the solar system’s chemistry. The spacecraft, now renamed OSIRIS-APEX, is en route to investigate asteroid Apophis, which will be studied in 2029.
