The National Weather Service has issued multiple Winter Weather Advisories covering regions including the Wasatch and Uinta Mountains, the Cottonwoods, and the Northern Wasatch Front. The storm's peak is forecast for Saturday morning, accompanied by wind gusts up to 50 mph, reducing visibility and making travel hazardous. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and check UDOT Traffic for updates as snow tapers off by Saturday evening.

Army Green Beret Linked to Las Vegas Explosion and Apparent Suicide

Master Sgt. Matthew Livelsberger, a decorated Green Beret, was undergoing mental health treatment for depression before allegedly triggering an explosion inside a Cybertruck at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas and subsequently dying by suicide. Authorities reported that Livelsberger, who had PTSD and personal issues, had visited mental health services three times from August to December. The incident is unrelated to a prior attack in New Orleans by another Army veteran. While the Army has made strides in reducing suicides, Livelsberger's case highlights the challenges of addressing mental health in the military, particularly with firearm safety, as guns are involved in most military suicides.

Chilean President Becomes First Americas Leader to Visit South Pole

Chilean President Gabriel Boric has become the first leader in the Americas to visit the South Pole, making a historic trip to the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. This visit emphasizes Chile’s commitment to Antarctic sovereignty, scientific research, and climate change projects. Boric, accompanied by scientists and cabinet members, highlighted Chile’s ambition to be a gateway to Antarctica. Only two other world leaders, from New Zealand and Norway, have visited the South Pole before. This region, governed under the Antarctic Treaty, serves as a scientific preserve free from indigenous populations or government control.
