Heber Valley Temple Lawsuit May End Without a Trial

A lawsuit against Wasatch County and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over the Heber Valley Temple may be resolved early, as petitioners have requested a summary judgment instead of proceeding to trial. The dispute began in 2023 when the church used a legislative development agreement—bypassing zoning restrictions—to approve the temple’s construction. Opponents argue that the agreement contradicts county zoning laws and state land use regulations, citing concerns over the temple’s height, traffic, and environmental impact. If granted, the summary judgment could determine the case’s outcome without a trial.

Court Grants Black Church Ownership of Proud Boys Trademark

A Washington, D.C., court has granted the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church ownership of the Proud Boys’ trademark after the far-right group failed to pay a $2.8 million judgment for vandalizing the church in 2020. The ruling allows the church to control the use of the group's name and symbols, blocking merchandise sales and recruitment efforts. Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, recently pardoned by President Trump, denounced the decision. The church, founded in 1838, views the ruling as a victory against white supremacist groups, while legal experts suggest it could significantly weaken the Proud Boys' influence.
