Unpredictable Commutes Due to Hybrid Work Schedules

The pandemic's lingering effects have worsened traffic in Salt Lake City and Provo despite fewer total commuters. Hybrid work schedules have made commutes unpredictable, with some days seeing unexpected gridlock. Flexible work hours have extended rush periods, leading to longer delays. Additionally, increased commercial traffic, particularly from expanded warehouse distribution networks, has contributed significantly to congestion. The Texas A&M Transportation Institute's study highlights these trends, noting a 7% increase in annual delay in Salt Lake City and a 9% increase in Provo since 2019.

Nurse Arrested for Allegedly Tampering with Pain Medication

Dani Marie Schofield, a former ICU nurse at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Oregon, has been arrested and faces 44 counts of second-degree assault. She is accused of replacing patients' fentanyl with tap water, leading to serious infections. The charges follow an investigation prompted by the hospital's report of a rise in central line infections. The allegations suggest Schofield diverted the pain medication for personal use. The exact number of affected patients and any resultant deaths were not disclosed, although a related lawsuit involves a patient who died after being treated for injuries from a fall.

BYU Basketball Recruiting Update

BYU basketball is aiming to fill its last two scholarships with a "stretch four" player, emphasizing shooting ability. The team is considering two main candidates: Kanon Catchings, a 6'9" top-40 prospect recently released from his letter of intent with Purdue, and Keylan Boone, a 6'8" UNLV forward in the transfer portal with an extra year of eligibility. The choice between Catchings, who offers potential and a connection to the coaching staff, and Boone, who provides experience and immediate impact, will be crucial in strengthening BYU's roster for the 2024-2025 season.
