Alaskan Rivers Turning Milky Orange Due to Thawing Permafrost
Researchers from the University of California, Davis, have discovered that some of Alaska's remote rivers are turning from clear blue to a milky orange hue, potentially due to thawing permafrost exposing minerals. This discoloration could significantly impact drinking water and fisheries in Arctic watersheds. A study in the journal Communications: Earth and Environment documented this phenomenon, which was observed in 75 locations across the northern Alaskan Brooks Range by a team from various institutions including the - and the U.S. Geological Survey.

New Method Measures Black Hole Spin
A study led by MIT research scientist Dheeraj "DJ" Pasham has introduced a new method to measure black hole spin, revealing that a specific black hole spins at less than 25% the speed of light. This relatively slow spin can provide insights into black hole evolution. The research suggests that surveying the spins of many nearby black holes could help understand their development over time. The study involves collaborators from institutions worldwide, including NASA and several universities.
