New Method Measures Black Hole Spin

A study led by MIT research scientist Dheeraj "DJ" Pasham has introduced a new method to measure black hole spin, revealing that a specific black hole spins at less than 25% the speed of light. This relatively slow spin can provide insights into black hole evolution. The research suggests that surveying the spins of many nearby black holes could help understand their development over time. The study involves collaborators from institutions worldwide, including NASA and several universities.
