Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Mother and Young Son

A tragic car crash in rural Utah County has claimed the lives of 20-year-old Mariana Zulzireth Tejeda-Sixto and her 15-month-old son, Thiago Vasquez. The accident occurred on Tuesday when their vehicle, traveling at a high speed, failed to stop at a T-intersection and collided with a road barrier before hitting a tree. Both mother and son sustained critical injuries and were transported to a hospital, where they later passed away. The incident took place in a rural area west of Payson and north of Santaquin, Utah.

Former Trucker Charged in 1977 California Murders

Warren Luther Alexander, a 73-year-old former long-haul trucker, has been charged with the 1977 murders of three women in Southern California, decades after their deaths. Already awaiting trial for the 1992 murder of Nona Cobb in North Carolina, Alexander was linked to these cold cases through DNA evidence. The victims, Kimberly Fritz, Velvet Sanchez, and Lorraine Rodriguez, were all found strangled in Ventura County. Authorities suspect Alexander may have additional victims and are working with the FBI to investigate further.

Brazilian authorities are investigating a tragic plane crash that killed 62 people in Vinhedo, São Paulo state. The Voepass ATR 72 aircraft, carrying 58 passengers and 4 crew members, crashed in a gated community while en route to São Paulo's international airport. The plane reportedly spiraled downward before crashing, and weather conditions, including potential ice formation, are being considered as factors in the crash. The plane's black box has been recovered, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.

BYU Falls to Wyoming in Aggressive 1-0 Match

The BYU women's soccer team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Wyoming in a physical match on Friday evening. Despite outshooting the Cowgirls 15-13 and creating several scoring opportunities, the Cougars were unable to find the back of the net. Wyoming's Gabby Clutter scored the decisive goal in the first half, and BYU was unable to capitalize on their numerous chances, including nine corner kicks and multiple shots on target. The Cougars will look to bounce back in their upcoming match against the Wisconsin Badgers on August 15.
