Orem Driver Charged After Fatal Hit-and-Run in Provo

An Orem man, Jose Santos Sandoval, has been charged with a third-degree felony for running over Brian Keith Coltharp, who had fallen at an intersection in Provo, and then fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage showed Sandoval’s van approaching the intersection, braking momentarily, and then driving over Coltharp before leaving. Sandoval later stopped at a gas station, inspected his vehicle, and claimed he thought he had hit a pile of rocks. Detectives found blood and torn clothing on the tire, leading to his arrest nearly a year after the incident.

Montana Man Sentenced for Illegally Cloning Rare Sheep for Trophy Hunting

Arthur "Jack" Schubarth, an 81-year-old Montana man, was sentenced to six months in federal prison for illegally using tissue from rare sheep to create hybrid species for captive trophy hunting. Schubarth cloned a Marco Polo sheep from Kyrgyzstan, named “Montana Mountain King,” and sold hybrid offspring for large sums across multiple states. The court also fined Schubarth $20,000 and banned him from breeding game stock during a three-year probation period. The hybrid sheep involved in the operation must now be sent to slaughter, with the meat donated to a food bank.

Russian Fighter Jet’s Reckless Buzzing of U.S. Aircraft Near Alaska Sparks Outrage

A Russian Su-35 fighter jet performed a dangerous maneuver, flying within feet of a U.S. Air Force aircraft patrolling off Alaska’s coast on September 23. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) released a video of the incident, calling the maneuver "unsafe and unprofessional." Senator Dan Sullivan condemned the provocation and urged for an increased U.S. military presence in Alaska. This encounter is part of a recent surge in Russian military activity near Alaska's airspace, with 25 such incidents reported this year compared to six or seven in previous years.
