Road Rage Incident in Lehi Results in Father's Death

Michael Brown, a 38-year-old father of two, died from a traumatic brain injury sustained during a road rage fight in Lehi. The incident, involving a physical altercation with another driver, John Williams, resulted in Brown being struck unconscious and later taken off life support. Brown's children, aged 8 and 10, were present during the incident. Williams has been charged with aggravated assault. A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $11,000 to support Brown's family. Lehi police urge drivers to remain calm and are increasing patrols to prevent similar incidents. A new law increasing penalties for road rage takes effect on July 1, 2024.

Texas Prosecutor Challenges Governor's Pardon

Travis County District Attorney José Garza seeks to overturn Texas Governor Greg Abbott's pardon of Daniel Perry, who was convicted of murdering BLM protester Garrett Foster in 2020. Garza plans to request the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals for a writ of mandamus to review the pardon, arguing it was outside legal norms. Perry was sentenced to 25 years but was released after Abbott's pardon last month, citing "Stand Your Ground" laws.

International News

International Police Operation Takes Down Ransomware Networks

A major international police operation, coordinated by the EU's justice and police agencies, dismantled ransomware networks responsible for spreading malware via infected emails. Dubbed "Endgame," the operation resulted in the arrest of four high-value suspects, the takedown of over 100 servers, and the seizure of 2,000 internet domains. The operation, involving multiple countries including the US, UK, and Germany, targeted malware such as IcedID, Pikabot, Smokeloader, Bumblebee, and Trickbot. Authorities seized assets worth 69 million euros and continue to monitor suspect transactions. This operation follows the 2021 takedown of the Emotet botnet and marks the largest international cyber police operation to date.

Saudi Arabia's 170-km-long Skyscraper 'The Line' Makes Progress

Saudi Arabia's ambitious 170-km-long mirrored skyscraper, The Line, is progressing rapidly. Intended to house around 9 million people, this massive structure in the Saudi desert will be 500 m tall and 200 m wide. Recent video footage shows extensive earthworks and foundation preparations underway. Part of the Neom giga-project, The Line is among several grand projects aimed at transitioning Saudi Arabia from an oil-based economy to a tourist destination. Despite practical challenges and controversies, the first phase is set to complete by 2030.
