Hyundai Recalls Santa Fe and Elantra Models Over Camera Defect
Hyundai is recalling over 226,000 2021–2022 Santa Fe and Elantra vehicles in the U.S. due to defective rearview cameras. The issue stems from solder joint cracks on the printed circuit board, which can worsen over time, causing camera failure and reducing rear visibility. This defect increases the risk of accidents, particularly involving pedestrians. Hyundai will replace the faulty cameras free of charge, with owner notifications set to begin on January 19, 2025.

Australian Parliament Advances Ban on Social Media for Children Under 16
Australia's House of Representatives passed a bill banning children under 16 from social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, imposing fines up to AU$50 million for non-compliance. Privacy safeguards, such as banning mandatory government ID submission, were added. Critics argue the law risks isolating children and is rushed, while supporters highlight its importance for child safety against online harms. A Senate vote is expected soon, and platforms will have one year to implement the restrictions.

Blake Snell Joins Dodgers on Five-Year, $182 Million Contract
The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million deal, bolstering a rotation loaded with ace-level talent and significant injury risks. Snell, a two-time Cy Young winner, exemplifies this duality with periods of dominance but limited durability across his career. The rotation also features high-upside but injury-prone pitchers like Tyler Glasnow, Shohei Ohtani, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Despite these concerns, the Dodgers remain a powerhouse, as evidenced by their 2024 World Series win despite rotational injuries. The team may add more talent, including Roki Sasaki, highlighting their ambition despite a history of frequent pitcher injuries.
