Small Plane Crashes into Utah Lake, Occupants Feared Dead

A small plane crashed into Utah Lake on Friday, with both occupants feared dead after being “submerged for an extended amount of time,” according to emergency responders. The crash occurred after the plane was cleared to land at the Provo Airport. Debris has been recovered, but authorities have not yet confirmed the status of the occupants. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, involving a Cirrus SR22 aircraft. Utah Lake State Park is temporarily closed to the public as search and recovery operations continue.

The U.K. permanently closed its last coal-fired power plant, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, marking the end of 140 years of coal-based electricity generation in the country. This move aligns with the U.K.'s commitment to phasing out coal and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The closure makes the U.K. the first G7 nation to completely eliminate coal as an energy source. Ratcliffe-on-Soar, which has been operational since 1967, had the capacity to power two million homes and played a key role in the country's energy supply. This milestone reflects a shift towards a cleaner energy future, as coal is considered one of the most harmful fossil fuels for the environment.
