Phoenix Police Face Scrutiny for Arrest of Deaf Man with Cerebral Palsy
The August 19, 2024, arrest of Tyron McAlpin, a deaf Black man with cerebral palsy, by Phoenix police officers Benjamin Harris and Kyle Sue has garnered national attention after video footage showed the officers tasing and punching McAlpin. The arrest occurred after McAlpin was accused of assault by another man at a convenience store, although the claim is disputed. McAlpin's inability to respond to the officers’ commands, due to his disabilities, resulted in a violent confrontation. Following public outcry, the Maricopa County Attorney has called for a personal review of the case, while civil rights groups, including the NAACP, demand an investigation into police misconduct and the dropping of charges against McAlpin.

Grand Egyptian Museum Finally Opens to Public After Decades of Delays
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), located near the Great Pyramids of Giza, partially opened to the public after nearly 20 years of delays caused by wars, uprisings, and the pandemic. Spanning over 5 million square feet, the museum holds 700,000 years of Egyptian antiquities and showcases artifacts from four historical periods. Among its highlights are colossal statues, the gold mask of Tutankhamun, and over 3,000 newly restored items, including some never before displayed. While a grand opening is yet to be scheduled, the soft launch has already attracted global interest, with Egyptologists calling it a monumental achievement in preserving Egypt’s cultural heritage.

Aaron Judge’s Seventh-Inning Home Run Powers Yankees to Game 2 Victory
Aaron Judge hit his first home run of the playoffs, leading the New York Yankees to a 6-2 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 2 of the ALCS, giving the Yankees a 2-0 series lead. Despite a rough outing from ace Gerrit Cole, who allowed 10 base runners over four innings, the Yankees' offense, highlighted by Judge’s 414-foot two-run homer in the seventh inning, secured the win. Gleyber Torres, Anthony Volpe, and Anthony Rizzo contributed with key hits, while the Guardians' Jose Ramirez hit a solo homer late in the game. The series moves to Cleveland for Game 3.
