Frozen Saber-Toothed Kitten Discovered in Russian Tundra

Scientists have uncovered a 37,000-year-old mummified saber-toothed kitten from the Russian tundra in the Republic of Sakha. The exceptionally well-preserved remains include the head, forelimbs, foot pads, and claws, offering rare insights into Homotherium latidens, a species that went extinct about 12,000 years ago. Radiocarbon dating places the kitten in the Late Pleistocene period, with features adapted for cold climates. This find, nicknamed the "Badyarikha mummy," highlights significant differences from modern lion cubs, including a dark coat, large neck, and elongated forelimbs. The discovery enhances understanding of extinct fauna and Late Pleistocene biodiversity.
