Utah Investor’s Lawsuit Against Tony Finau Dismissed by Judge

Salt Lake City investor Molonai Hola’s multimillion-dollar lawsuit against professional golfer Tony Finau and his family has been dismissed by a Utah County judge at the request of both parties. Hola claimed he was owed $600,000 in loans, $300,000 for consulting, and 20% of the Finau brothers' career earnings under a 2006 agreement. Declining a $300,000 settlement offer from Finau, Hola plans to appeal the case to the Utah Supreme Court, citing restrictions on evidence and witnesses. A similar lawsuit by another investor, David Hunter, was dismissed in 2022 due to statute-of-limitations issues, complicating Hola’s case.

HHS Awards $590 Million to Moderna for Bird Flu Vaccine Development

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Moderna $590 million to expedite the development of mRNA vaccines targeting the H5N1 bird flu, which has pandemic potential despite its current low risk to public health. HHS’s partnership with Moderna, initiated in 2023, aims to enhance mRNA technology for faster vaccine development during influenza-related health emergencies. Moderna has already conducted early trials with positive results and plans to begin Phase III trials for its investigational vaccine, mRNA-1018, targeting H5 and H7 bird flu subtypes. The initiative underscores the importance of mRNA platforms in pandemic preparedness, complementing traditional vaccines, and encouraging seasonal flu immunizations to mitigate risks.
