Provo Officer Hits Pedestrian, Sparks Critical Incident Protocol

A Provo police officer struck a 50-year-old pedestrian with a patrol vehicle on November 11, 2024, prompting an officer-involved critical incident protocol. The pedestrian, who was seriously injured, was reported to have walked into the road, and the officer appeared to swerve in an attempt to avoid the collision. Investigators noted dim lighting at the scene and discovered that the pedestrian had prior contact with police that day during a theft investigation, where he was reported to smell of alcohol and appeared impaired. The Utah County Officer Involved Critical Incident Team, assisted by Utah Highway Patrol, is conducting the investigation, which will be reviewed by the Utah County Attorney’s Office.

California School Shooting Critically Injures Two Kindergarten Students

Two kindergarten boys, ages 5 and 6, are in critical condition following a shooting at Feather River Adventist School in Butte County, California, on December 4, 2024. The gunman, believed to have targeted the school due to its Seventh-day Adventist Church affiliation, met with the principal under the pretext of enrolling a student before opening fire. He later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities are investigating his motives, including whether the meeting was a ruse. The FBI is assisting with the investigation, which remains in its early stages.
