Missing Springville Woman Lesa Hyde Found Dead in Provo Shed

Provo police arrested 53-year-old Arthuro Carrion on suspicion of murder after discovering the body of missing Springville woman Lesa Hyde in a shed behind an apartment complex. Hyde had been missing since December 2024. Officers responded to a 911 call, and Carrion, who was at the scene, handed over a key, admitting they would find "a dead body" inside. Authorities noted a strong odor of decomposition and located Hyde’s remains in plastic bags. Carrion had a prior domestic violence conviction against Hyde in November 2024, but his jail sentence had been suspended. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

Trump Administration Orders ICE to Locate Unaccompanied Migrant Children

The Trump administration has directed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to locate unaccompanied migrant children in the U.S., citing concerns over human trafficking and exploitation. An internal ICE document outlines a four-phase plan to track, serve court notices, or deport minors with pending removal orders. Since 2019, over 600,000 migrant children have crossed the southern border. ICE has classified minors into three risk categories, prioritizing those who missed court hearings. Critics argue that the initiative could harm vulnerable children, while advocates stress the need for legal support to ensure fair immigration proceedings.

Germany’s New Chancellor Pledges Greater Independence from the U.S.

Germany’s incoming chancellor, Friedrich Merz, has pledged to reduce the country's reliance on the U.S. and strengthen European defense, citing concerns over the Trump administration’s shifting foreign policy. Merz's CDU party won 28.6% of the vote, while the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) achieved its strongest result in history. He suggested that NATO’s current structure may need to be replaced with an independent European security system. His remarks come amid increasing pressure from the U.S. for European allies to contribute more to their own defense. Meanwhile, AfD’s surge, backed by Elon Musk, signals a significant shift in German politics.
