Rocky Mountain Power Plans Overnight Outage for Utah County Areas

Rocky Mountain Power has scheduled an overnight power outage for parts of Utah County, including Eagle Mountain, Cedar Fort, Fairfield, and sections of Saratoga Springs, to take place from 11 p.m. on Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday. The planned outage is intended to support upgrades to transmission lines, raising their height to prevent accidental contact with high-profile vehicles and to improve power reliability. Residents in affected areas were notified through email and text, and drivers are advised to treat disabled traffic lights as four-way stops.

Armed Teen Stopped From Entering Wisconsin Elementary School

In Wisconsin, a 13-year-old armed former student was narrowly prevented from entering Roosevelt Elementary School after being confronted by vigilant school staff on Thursday morning. The teen, who had reportedly looked up information on school shootings and made related comments to peers, attempted to access the school multiple times before entering the vestibule, where staff intervened and caused him to flee. Kenosha Police Chief Patrick D. Patton praised the swift response of both the staff and the community, whose tips helped lead to the suspect’s arrest around 2 p.m. Police later confirmed the teen was armed and had no legitimate reason to approach the school.

DNA Study Challenges Long-Held Views on Pompeii Victims’ Identities

Recent DNA analysis of Pompeii eruption victims has reshaped longstanding interpretations about their identities and relationships. Researchers from the Max Planck Institute, Harvard University, and the University of Florence analyzed genetic material from plaster-cast remains, revealing unexpected results. In one example, a person thought to be a mother holding a child was actually an unrelated man, and another pair thought to be sisters or mother and daughter included a man. Additionally, findings confirmed Pompeii’s residents’ diverse Mediterranean heritage, emphasizing extensive cultural exchange within the Roman Empire. This genetic study builds on previous 2022 research, and further discoveries continue to shed light on Pompeii's history and population.

Ravens Stop Bengals’ Last-Minute 2-Point Attempt to Win 35-34

In a thrilling Thursday Night Football game, the Baltimore Ravens narrowly defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 35-34, holding off a two-point conversion attempt with only seconds remaining. The Bengals, down by one after Ja’Marr Chase’s third touchdown catch, opted for a win rather than overtime but fell short when Joe Burrow's pass on the conversion attempt fell incomplete amid missed penalty calls. Despite being heavily penalized on the final drive, Baltimore managed to secure the win after an onside kick recovery, improving to a 7-3 record while diminishing Cincinnati’s playoff hopes as they dropped to 4-6. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson threw for 290 yards and four touchdowns, leading a late-game surge. Burrow responded with 428 passing yards, aided by Chase’s 264 receiving yards, but ultimately couldn’t secure the Bengals’ comeback.
