New Murals Enhance Downtown Provo

Quinn Peterson, executive director of Downtown Provo, introduced new public art pieces for the upcoming Freedom Festival from July 3 to July 5, featuring murals throughout the downtown area. Peterson acts as a liaison between artists and property owners to coordinate mural designs. He also engages in personal creative projects, including restoring an early model green Honda. Supreme Court Narrows Obstruction Charge Scope

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in favor of Joseph Fischer, a former Pennsylvania police officer charged with obstructing an official proceeding during the Jan. 6 Capitol breach, narrowing the use of the federal obstruction statute. The ruling requires proof that the defendant impaired records or documents used in an official proceeding. This decision affects nearly 250 ongoing prosecutions related to Jan. 6.

Magnitude 7.2 Earthquake Hits Southern Peru

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck southern Peru early Friday morning, with its epicenter near Atiquipa. Despite initial fears, a tsunami warning was canceled after a few hours. The quake caused buildings to shake and led residents to evacuate, but no fatalities were reported, only eight injuries. Authorities are assessing infrastructure damage, while President Dina Boluarte is currently in China.
