Orbán Seeks to Redefine Hungary's NATO Membership

Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced efforts to "redefine" the country's NATO membership to avoid participating in actions outside NATO territory, specifically to refrain from aiding Ukraine against Russia. Hungary, which has consistently blocked Western support for Ukraine, seeks to formally opt out of NATO's expanded role in the conflict. Orbán supports NATO's mutual defense but opposes assisting Ukraine financially or militarily, fearing increased military involvement. Despite Hungary's stance, NATO remains a strong supporter of Ukraine, pledging significant financial and military aid.

VFTS 243 Suggests Supernova-Free Black Hole Formation

Observations of VFTS 243 suggest that massive black holes can form without a supernova explosion, contrasting with the typical high-velocity kicks seen in newborn neutron stars formed via core-collapse supernovae. Christopher Kochanek acknowledges the compelling evidence but mentions an alternative explanation involving elliptical orbits and asymmetrical mass loss. This direct collapse theory might explain why certain stars identified by the VASCO project have disappeared without a trace, hinting that some stars might collapse directly into black holes without a supernova, particularly if they aren't part of a binary system.
