American Airlines Flight Aborts Landing at Reagan Airport for Safety

An American Airlines flight from Boston to Reagan National Airport was forced to abort its landing to avoid another plane on the runway, following air traffic control instructions. The maneuver, known as a go-around, is a standard safety procedure, but a passenger described the experience as "terrifying." The incident occurred amid growing concerns about recent aviation safety issues, including a deadly midair collision near the same airport earlier in the month. The FAA and NTSB are gathering information on the event. A separate close call between a Southwest flight and a private jet occurred in Chicago the same day.

Leaked Audio Raises Doubts About Greek Coast Guard’s Role in Shipwreck

Leaked audio recordings challenge the Greek Coast Guard's account of the June 2023 migrant boat disaster, where up to 650 people died. The recordings suggest Greek authorities instructed migrants to claim they did not want to go to Greece, contradicting survivors who allege the coastguard’s actions caused the boat to capsize. The Greek government denies wrongdoing and maintains the migrants voluntarily sought to reach Italy. Human rights groups and legal experts call for an independent investigation, citing potential cover-ups and misconduct. The Greek Naval Court is currently reviewing the case.

Gaethje Reveals Fighters Who Declined Short-Notice UFC 313 Fight

Justin Gaethje revealed that several top-ranked UFC lightweights turned down a last-minute fight against him at UFC 313 after Dan Hooker withdrew due to injury. Fighters who allegedly declined include Arman Tsarukyan, Charles Oliveira, Max Holloway, Dustin Poirier, and Renato Moicano. Gaethje acknowledged the difficulty of accepting fights on short notice due to weight-cutting challenges. Tsarukyan responded, saying he accepted but requested a 160-pound catchweight, which the UFC rejected. Ultimately, Rafael Fiziev stepped in for a rematch against Gaethje, who previously defeated him at UFC 286. The fight is scheduled for March 8, 2025.
