Israeli Airstrike in Beit Lahia Kills 87, Local Officials Report

At least 87 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, according to Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry. The strike targeted a residential area, and local officials reported that many are still trapped under the rubble. Israel's military described the strike as a "precision" attack on a Hamas target, while a UN official warned that the situation in Gaza is a humanitarian nightmare, with nowhere being safe. The ongoing Israeli military offensive in northern Gaza is part of efforts to prevent Hamas from regrouping after its attack on Israel in October 2023. Humanitarian aid access remains severely limited, worsening the already dire situation.
