Solar Eclipse

On April 8, 2024, North America will witness a total solar eclipse, with Mexico being the first to experience it and the path moving northward across the United States before ending near Canada's coast. Here are some common questions and answers about the eclipse:

  1. What is a total solar eclipse? It occurs when the moon passes between Earth and the sun, blocking the solar surface from view.

  2. What other types of eclipses exist? Annular solar eclipses, where the moon appears too small to cover the sun completely, and partial solar eclipses, where only a portion of the sun is obscured, are other types. Lunar eclipses occur when Earth comes between the moon and the sun.

  3. How dark will it be during the eclipse? The event will last around two hours or more, starting with a partial eclipse and culminating in totality, when the moon fully blocks the sun's surface. Totality duration varies by location, with some areas experiencing it for over four minutes and others for one to two minutes.
