J. Dawgs Celebrates 20 Years with Free Hot Dogs

J. Dawgs, a popular Utah-based hot dog chain founded by BYU student Jayson Edwards 20 years ago, is celebrating its anniversary by giving away free hot dogs on June 25 at all eight of its locations. The celebration marks the brand's growth from a small shack in Provo to multiple locations statewide. J. Dawgs has become a local favorite, known for its high-quality ingredients and friendly service. The giveaway is a gesture of appreciation to the community that supported the business through its journey, including the challenges of the pandemic.

105-Year-Old Receives Master's Degree from Stanford

Virginia "Ginnie" Hislop, aged 105, walked at her graduation to receive a master’s degree in education from Stanford Graduate School of Education, over 80 years after she began her studies in the 1940s. Her education was interrupted by World War II, during which she left school to marry her then-boyfriend George Hislop and assist in the war effort. Despite her long hiatus, she remained active in education through community service. After Stanford dropped its thesis requirement, she returned to complete her degree and celebrated the achievement surrounded by family.

Mystery Monolith Discovered Near Las Vegas

A mysterious monolith has appeared in the Nevada desert near Gass Peak, north of Las Vegas. Discovered by the Las Vegas Police Department during a search and rescue mission, the reflective, rectangular structure resembles similar monoliths that appeared globally in 2020, sparking speculation about their origin and purpose. These monoliths, reminiscent of those in Stanley Kubrick's film "2001: A Space Odyssey," have previously been found in Utah, Romania, California, the Isle of Wight, and Wales. The identity of those behind these structures remains unknown.

Christopher Fogt Named Head Coach of USA Bobsled

Christopher Fogt, a Utah Valley University alumnus and three-time Olympian, has been appointed as the head coach of the USA Bobsled team, announced by the US Bobsled and Skeleton Federation on June 17. Fogt, who won a silver medal in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics in the four-man bobsled and also competed in the 2010 and 2018 Games, is a Major in the U.S. Army’s World Class Athlete Program. A Utah resident, Fogt holds a degree in business management from UVU and is a former track team captain.
