Execution Set for Texas Inmate on Victim's Birthday
Ramiro Gonzales, who admitted to kidnapping, sexually assaulting, and fatally shooting 18-year-old Bridget Townsend in 2001, is set to be executed in Texas on June 26, which would have been Townsend's 41st birthday. Townsend's remains were found nearly two years after her disappearance when Gonzales, already serving life sentences for other crimes, led authorities to her body. Gonzales' lawyers have requested a stay of execution from the U.S. Supreme Court, arguing he has taken responsibility for his crimes and changed since then. However, the victim's family, particularly her brother, seeks closure and believes the execution should proceed.
