SEC Sues Elon Musk Over Late Disclosure of Twitter Stock Purchases

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has sued Elon Musk for failing to disclose his purchase of over 5% of Twitter’s stock within the required timeframe in 2022. This delay allegedly allowed Musk to buy additional shares at an artificially low price, underpaying by $150 million. SEC rules mandate disclosure within ten days after crossing the 5% threshold, but Musk delayed until his holdings reached 9%. His lawyer dismissed the lawsuit as a minor administrative issue, accusing the SEC of harassment. This case marks the third SEC legal action against Musk, following cases over Tesla tweets and his 2022 Twitter purchases.

Russia Strikes Ukraine’s Energy Grid with Missiles and Drones

Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone strike on Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure and forcing power grid shutdowns amid freezing winter conditions. The attack, involving 43 missiles and 74 drones, followed Russian claims of a Ukrainian strike on Russian territory. Ukrainian authorities reported significant damage to energy facilities, though power was partially restored by midday. Russia’s goal appears to be the continued destabilization of Ukraine’s energy supply to weaken morale and disrupt defense production. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy urged faster delivery of promised Western air defense systems. In Poland, Prime Minister Donald Tusk pledged to accelerate Ukraine’s EU membership during Poland’s EU presidency, highlighting solidarity despite historical tensions.

Quinn Ewers Declares for the 2025 NFL Draft Deadline Day

Quinn Ewers, former Texas Longhorns quarterback, has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, foregoing his remaining college eligibility. Ewers’ agent, Ron Slavin, confirmed the decision on the draft declaration deadline. The quarterback, who began his collegiate career at Ohio State before transferring to Texas, opted for the NFL to start the clock toward a second contract, despite potential higher short-term earnings in college. His departure opens the door for Arch Manning to become Texas' starting quarterback in 2025, while NFL teams begin evaluating Ewers' draft prospects.
