Refugee Family from Myanmar Killed in Utah Murder-Suicide Tragedy

A tragic murder-suicide in Utah claimed the lives of a refugee family from Myanmar. Police believe Dae Reh, 42, fatally shot his wife, Bu Meh, 38, and their children—Boe Reh, 11, Kristine Ree, 8, and Nyay Meh, 2—before turning the gun on himself. The couple’s 17-year-old son, Sha Reh, survived with severe brain injuries from a gunshot wound. The family fled ethnic violence in Myanmar a decade ago and built a new life in the U.S. No prior reports of domestic violence existed. Relatives expressed heartbreak and launched a fundraiser for Sha Reh’s recovery and future education.

Zoo curator Byron Wusstig highlighted the rarity of breeding this species outside Australia. The baby lizards are thriving under close observation in a controlled environment and are currently off-exhibit, while their father can be seen in the zoo's Australia section. Perentie lizards can grow over 8 feet long, weigh more than 40 pounds, and are carnivorous, consuming prey whole.
