Trump Threatens Denmark Over Greenland Amid Rising Tensions
Denmark is facing tensions following statements by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatening to acquire Greenland, a self-governing Danish territory. Trump suggested military force and economic tariffs if Denmark resists. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, while emphasizing Greenland's autonomy, has sought to maintain diplomatic ties, calling the U.S. a "close partner." Greenland's leaders advocate for independence amid rising nationalist sentiment, but its economy remains heavily dependent on Denmark. EU leaders and trade experts have voiced concerns, fearing broader destabilization of international agreements.
