Volunteers Go Undercover in Utah County Jail for TV Show

The A&E show "60 Days In" follows seven volunteers who go undercover as inmates at Utah County Jail to expose issues such as drugs, contraband, and gang activity. Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith highlights the importance of this approach for a thorough audit that regular methods cannot achieve. The show aims to uncover how narcotics enter the facility and evaluate short-term programs to better support inmates. Filming took place from January to mid-April, resulting in immediate and ongoing changes in jail operations. The ninth season of "60 Days In" includes 13 episodes from Utah County Jail.

Thai Fugitive Arrested in Bali After Months on the Run

Chaowalit Thongduang, one of Thailand's most wanted fugitives, was arrested in Bali, Indonesia, after escaping from detention in Thailand. Known as "Pang Na Node," he was apprehended following a 17-hour speedboat trip from India and months on the run. Thai and Indonesian authorities collaborated in the capture, seizing multiple fake identity documents. Chaowalit, involved in several killings and drug trafficking, will be extradited to Thailand. His escape and subsequent manhunt involved significant resources, costing around $271,816.

China Achieves Historic Moon Landing

China's Chang'e 6 spacecraft successfully landed on the far side of the moon after a month-long journey, marking an historic achievement for the China National Space Administration (CNSA). The mission aims to collect rock and soil samples from the Apollo Basin, a challenging and unexplored lunar region. This effort is expected to provide valuable scientific insights into the moon's geology and the formation of planets. The landing was celebrated by Chinese space scientists, and the mission will involve a three-day exploration of the lunar surface, utilizing advanced 3D scanning technology.

Alpine Loop Opens for Summer Season

The Alpine Loop scenic byway in Utah County is now open for the summer season, as announced by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) on May 30. Delayed due to mud and debris from rain, UDOT ensured the road was safe and clear before opening. The Alpine Loop is a popular destination known for its stunning views, and visitors are advised to follow safety precautions when exploring the area. Other seasonal routes have also opened, with some remaining closed until further notice.
