Church Announces Revised Age Ranges for Young Single and Single Adult Wards

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently revised the age ranges for young single adult (YSA) and single adult (SA) wards, now defining YSA as members aged 18–35 and SA as those aged 36 and older. This change, announced on July 18, 2024, extends the YSA age limit from the previous cutoff of 30. Reactions from BYU students have been mixed, with some praising the inclusivity of the new age range, while others expressed concerns about potential awkwardness in dating situations due to the wider age spread. The Church also emphasized the importance of Institute classes for young adults, urging leaders to support attendance.

Discovery of Decomposed Bodies on Abandoned Boat

Dominican Republic authorities are investigating the discovery of 14 decomposed bodies on an abandoned boat found 10 nautical miles off the northern coast. The remains, believed to belong to individuals from Senegal and Mauritania based on documentation, were found alongside 12 packages of suspected drugs, possibly cocaine or heroin. The boat also contained cell phones and geolocation devices. This incident highlights the dangers of the Atlantic migration route from West Africa, where boats often drift off course, leading to dehydration, malnutrition, and death. Forensic analysis is ongoing to determine the cause of death and confirm the contents of the packages.
