Conviction of Samuel Woodward

Samuel Woodward, a neo-Nazi, has been convicted of the hate-crime murder of Blaze Bernstein, a 19-year-old gay classmate. Woodward, who met Bernstein online for a hookup, fatally stabbed him 20 times in a California park in 2018. The jury's verdict came after one day of deliberation, and Woodward faces life in prison without parole. The defense acknowledged the killing but denied it was motivated by hate, attributing it instead to Woodward's confusion about his sexuality and challenges due to an undiagnosed autism spectrum condition.

Importance of the Buddy System

Search and rescue authorities emphasize the importance of using a buddy system during outdoor adventures. Utah County Sergeant Dallin Turner advises that having a companion can ensure someone can seek help if there is no cell service or other means to call for assistance. For those venturing out alone, Turner stresses informing someone of your plans, knowing your limits, and not hesitating to call for help if needed. Additionally, it's crucial to carry extra water and seek shade if waiting for rescue.
