Bride-to-Be Injured in Mattress Transport Mishap Day Before Wedding

The day before their wedding, Utah bride-to-be Lydia Kessinger was thrown from the bed of a truck while lying on a king-size mattress being transported to her new home. The mattress lifted off the truck at 50 mph, landing in the road. Despite road rash and chipped teeth, Lydia safely reached the roadside and still walked down the aisle the next day. The newlyweds are now working with Utah transportation authorities to promote proper load securing in honor of National Secure Your Load Day on May 6. This incident highlights the importance of securing transported items to prevent road hazards.

SBC to Vote on Banning Women Pastors

The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is voting on an amendment to ban churches with women pastors, affecting churches like First Baptist Church of Alexandria, Virginia. This proposed ban has sparked debate, with critics arguing it distracts from issues like sexual abuse and declining membership. The SBC's Executive Committee opposes the amendment, warning it could lead to widespread church expulsions, impacting many, including predominantly Black congregations. The controversy underscores broader denominational struggles with inclusivity and autonomy.

Starship Achieves Successful Ocean Splashdown

SpaceX's Starship rocket successfully completed its first full flight and ocean splashdown, marking a significant milestone for reusable spaceflight. Both the Super Heavy booster and the Starship rocket landed in water after launch, demonstrating their reusability. Starship endured the extreme reentry conditions and landed in the Indian Ocean, although some parts were damaged during descent. This achievement moves SpaceX closer to Elon Musk's vision of reducing spaceflight costs and eventually colonizing Mars. Future plans include attempts to catch the booster with launch tower "chopsticks" and eventually landing the Starship on solid ground.

Study Links Xylitol to Increased Cardiovascular Risks

A Cleveland Clinic study, published in the European Heart Journal, has linked the sugar substitute xylitol to an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular-related deaths. Xylitol, a sugar alcohol found in small amounts in fruits and vegetables, is used in higher concentrations in sugar-free gum, candies, toothpaste, baked goods, and keto-friendly products. This follows similar findings last year regarding erythritol, another sugar substitute. Lead author Dr. Stanley Hazen emphasized that those most likely to consume these substitutes, such as people with diabetes, are at heightened risk.
