Russia's Investment in Patriotic Education
Russia is heavily investing in "patriotic education" to instill nationalistic and imperialist ideologies in its youth, aiming to perpetuate Putinism. In 2024, about 45.85 billion rubles ($520 million) will be allocated for these efforts. State-run youth groups, such as "Movement of the First," have expanded significantly since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Experts believe this will create a highly ideologized, conservative, and anti-Western generation. One notable group, the "Fraternity of the Academics," promotes imperial ideals and is supported by nationalist billionaire Konstantin Malofeyev. This fraternity is present in almost every major Russian university, though the Kremlin keeps a cautious distance due to its radical views.
