Serious Arm Injury in Provo Cycling Race

Cyclist Ryan Jastrab suffered a severe arm injury during the Salt Lake Criterium race in Provo, Utah, after his arm struck a metal barricade, nearly severing it. Immediate aid from bystanders and rapid response from paramedics enabled him to undergo successful surgery to reattach his arm. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of metal barriers used in cycling races. Jastrab is recovering and is expected to return to California soon.

Yellowstone National Park Shooting

A 28-year-old man, Samson Lucas Bariah Fussner, was fatally shot by park rangers in Yellowstone National Park after allegedly threatening a mass shooting. Fussner, who worked for a business in the park, was confronted while firing a semi-automatic rifle near a dining facility with around 200 people inside. During the confrontation, a ranger was also shot but is in stable condition. Fussner had earlier reportedly held a woman against her will and threatened further violence. The incident is under investigation by the FBI and will be reviewed by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Wyoming.

Fatal Elephant Attack on Tourist in South Africa

A Spanish tourist was trampled to death by elephants at Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa after leaving his vehicle to take photographs. The 43-year-old man was attacked by an adult female elephant and her herd. Despite warnings and safety protocols prohibiting leaving vehicles, the man approached the herd, which included young calves, prompting a protective and fatal response. His fiancée and two other women were unharmed. This incident follows similar fatal elephant attacks on tourists in recent months.

Safety and Ongoing Operations on the ISS

NASA astronauts Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita Williams, currently aboard the ISS after a delayed return due to Boeing Starliner issues, will hold a press conference. Originally scheduled to return on June 14, the astronauts have faced mechanical problems with the Starliner, including helium leaks and a thruster issue. NASA has assured their safety and continued operations on the ISS, with no set return date yet. Testing and analysis of the Starliner are ongoing to ensure a safe return.
